G4S Nigeria protects Nigerian waters with specialist Emergency Response Vessels.
G4S Nigeria is proud to have two Emergency Response Vessels, named Swordfish and Sailfish, in the Nigerian waters.
Both are 81 foot Halter Class patrol boats, built for use by the US Navy Seals. They were the first and second prototypes of this class of vessel which are still in operational use by the US military.
The vessels are constructed of Kevlar E-glass and carbon filter composite and have a displacement of 76 tons. They are fitted with 3 sixteen cylinder Detroit diesel engines, each engine producing 1450 bhp. The vessels are capable of a top speed of 48 knots and have a fuel capacity of 11,000 litres.
They are equipped with a full array of electronic navigational aids and have limited accommodation for 6 people on board. The EVR’s are skippered by ex South African Special Forces and the crews are Nigerian Nationals from the Navy.
The ERVs are on hire to Chevron Nigeria Limited, one of G4S Nigeria’s top Customers, and are based at the port of Escravos from where they are deployed on a daily basis. The vessels are employed mainly in a maritime patrol role to safeguard CNL assets. This includes protection against theft, unauthorized access to oil rigs, platforms and jackets. Other duties carried out are Search and Rescue, escorting of tankers, personnel and equipment transfers, and preventing fishing vessels from entering or clearing them from dangerous areas where oil production related work is being conducted.
